Oil painting by Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller, commissioned by Breitkopf & Hartel in Leipzig. According to Robbins-Landon and other sources, the original was destroyed in World War II, but one authentic copy by Waldmuller survived. However, according to Feuchtmuller (Eine Brusseler Beethoven-Sammlung, Bonn: Beethoven-Haus, exhibit catalog Dec. 15, 1991-March 12, 1992), the primary version was exhibited in Antwerp and Brussels in the 1970s, Vienna (1990), and Bonn (1992), and was sold at Sotheby's (Oct. 9, 1996) for 200,000 pounds
